At first glance, the garden seems to have arrived by accident. Foxgloves lean into the path, grasses soften the edges of clipped yew and self-seeded plants appear between old bricks. In fact, the apparent ease is the result of unusually precise editing.

The designer calls it a garden of negotiated boundaries. Formal shapes provide winter structure, while the planting between them is allowed to shift, migrate and respond to the salt-laden wind.

## Structure beneath abundance

The original walled enclosure supplied the essential geometry. Rather than add more axes, the new plan works with a single brick path and a sequence of small clearings. A stone bench marks the point at which the sea first becomes visible.

Plant choices are robust rather than rare. Silver foliage tolerates drought, deep-rooted perennials hold the soil and grasses keep the garden animated long after flowers have faded.

> The aim is not to freeze one perfect week in June, but to make every month feel intentional.

## A garden that edits itself

Maintenance follows observation. Some seedlings are removed, others are left to test a new position. Seed heads remain through winter, and fallen leaves are gathered into the beds rather than taken away.

The result is neither wilderness nor nostalgia. It is a garden shaped by old lessons—shelter, sequence, patience—yet alert to a changing climate and a more generous idea of beauty.
